BROOKFIELD COMMITS UP TO $600 MILLION TO ACME’S GREEN-MOLECULE BUSINESS, INCLUDING ODISHA PROJECTS

Global investment manager Brookfield is committing up to $600 million to ACME Group’s green-molecule business, with the capital expected to support projects including two green-ammonia developments and a green-methanol project in Odisha. The investment is being made through Brookfield’s Global Transition Fund and represents a major international capital commitment to India’s emerging green-fuels sector. ACME has been developing a portfolio of green-ammonia and related projects aimed at supplying low-carbon molecules to industrial customers in India and overseas. Green ammonia is produced using renewable electricity rather than fossil fuels and is increasingly being considered for applications in shipping, fertiliser production, power generation and industrial decarbonisation. The Odisha projects are particularly important because the state has a strong industrial base and access to ports, creating potential advantages for exporting green molecules and serving domestic industrial consumers. ACME’s projects are supported by long-term offtake arrangements involving companies such as IFFCO, Paradeep Phosphates, Coromandel International and international counterparties, providing greater visibility around future demand. Brookfield’s involvement brings not only capital but also the financial capacity to develop large infrastructure-intensive projects over a long period. Green hydrogen and ammonia projects require substantial investment in renewable power, electrolysers, storage, water infrastructure and logistics, meaning access to long-term institutional capital is critical. Odisha’s participation in this investment programme fits into its broader strategy of building a green-energy and industrial ecosystem alongside its traditional metals and mining industries. The combination of renewable energy, ports, industrial demand and land availability could make the state an attractive location for green-fuel projects. The development could also create opportunities for local engineering, construction, logistics and maintenance companies. For Odisha’s industrial economy, green molecules could eventually become a new export category, particularly if international shipping and industrial customers increasingly demand low-carbon fuels. The Brookfield-ACME transaction therefore provides an important signal that global institutional capital is prepared to finance large clean-energy projects connected to Odisha.
