GLOBAL SPACE ECONOMY ENTERS A NEW INVESTMENT PHASE AS PRIVATE CAPITAL FLOWS RISE

0

The global space economy is attracting a growing pool of private capital as investors increasingly view satellites, launch systems, communications and space-based data as commercial infrastructure rather than purely government-supported activities. Private investment in space companies more than doubled to about $23 billion in the year through June, according to a report cited by Reuters. The increase reflects greater confidence in companies that have moved beyond experimental stages and begun developing commercially viable products and services. Satellite communications can support remote connectivity, while Earth-observation data is being used in agriculture, logistics, environmental monitoring and defence. Lower launch costs and improvements in satellite technology have also reduced some of the barriers that historically limited private participation. The expansion of capital could accelerate innovation while creating opportunities for component suppliers, software companies and specialist engineering firms. India is also developing a stronger private space ecosystem, making global investment trends relevant to Indian startups and technology companies. The sector remains risky because hardware development requires substantial capital and technical failures can have significant financial consequences. Nevertheless, the sharp increase in investment shows that space is becoming an increasingly important part of the global technology and infrastructure economy. The next stage of growth is likely to involve greater integration between space services, telecommunications, artificial intelligence and Earth-based commercial applications
