ODISHA CLEARS ₹2.47 LAKH CRORE INVESTMENT PIPELINE AS DATA CENTRES, AI AND POWER PROJECTS SURGE

ODISHA has approved a massive investment pipeline of ₹2,47,115.70 crore covering 27 projects across 15 districts, marking one of the largest single rounds of industrial clearances in the state’s recent history. The projects have an estimated employment potential of more than 50,000 jobs and cover sectors ranging from artificial intelligence and data centres to semiconductors, power, steel, healthcare, chemicals, textiles, shipbuilding and green energy. What makes the latest approvals particularly significant is the changing composition of Odisha’s investment landscape. Traditional industries such as steel and power continue to attract very large commitments, but digital infrastructure has emerged as the largest new growth area. Projects linked to IT, IT-enabled services and data centres account for nearly ₹1.43 lakh crore of the total approved investment. The development indicates that Odisha is increasingly being considered not only as a minerals and manufacturing destination but also as a potential location for high-capacity digital infrastructure. The projects are spread across several districts, which could help distribute investment and employment beyond the state’s established industrial corridors. However, the economic impact will ultimately depend on how quickly the approved proposals move from clearance to construction and commercial operations. For Odisha, the new pipeline creates an opportunity to build stronger links between power generation, digital infrastructure, manufacturing, logistics and skilled employment. It also raises the requirement for reliable electricity, transmission networks, land, water, connectivity and specialised manpower. The scale of the proposals therefore represents more than a collection of individual investments; it points toward a broader shift in the state’s industrial strategy.
