ULTRAVIOLETTE ₹779 CRORE HOSUR PLANT SIGNALS INDIA’S NEXT EV MANUFACTURING PUSH
Electric two-wheeler startup Ultraviolette Automotive is investing approximately ₹779 crore in a new manufacturing facility at Hosur, Tamil Nadu, as it prepares to move from a premium electric-motorcycle niche into the mass-market segment. The new plant will initially have annual capacity of 250,000 electric two-wheelers and can eventually scale to 500,000 units. The facility is designed to support the company’s upcoming Tesseract electric scooter as well as future models across several segments. Ultraviolette is backed by investors including Qualcomm and TVS Motor, giving it access to both technology expertise and automotive-industry networks. The company expects demand for its scooter to potentially reach around 10,000 units a month at scale, while exports currently representing around 15% of sales could rise to 25% within five years. The expansion illustrates how India’s EV industry is moving beyond early adopters and premium motorcycles toward higher-volume products. Electric two-wheelers crossed 1 million sales during the first eight months of 2026, showing that the category is becoming an increasingly important part of India’s automotive market. For startups, Ultraviolette’s expansion demonstrates the capital requirements of moving from product development into mass manufacturing.
