EdTech unicorn upGrad officially completed its long-negotiated acquisition of Unacademy in an all-stock deal valued slightly over $200 million. This transaction consolidates two of India’s largest edtech entities, allowing upGrad to immediately step into the competitive online test-preparation market and capture Unacademy’s student base.
Ronnie Screwvala revealed the deal’s roots trace back to 2020, when Unacademy co-founder Gaurav Munjal pitched a combined vision over a lunch meeting in Mumbai, initially proposing to run the joint entity.
