BROOKFIELD COMMITS UP TO $600 MILLION TO ACME’S GREEN-MOLECULE BUSINESS, INCLUDING ODISHA PROJECTS

Global investment manager Brookfield is committing up to $600 million to ACME Group’s green-molecule business, providing international capital for a portfolio that includes green-ammonia and green-methanol projects in India and West Asia, including developments in Odisha. The investment is significant because green molecules require large upfront spending on renewable power, electrolysers, storage, water infrastructure and transportation, making access to long-term institutional capital essential. Green ammonia can serve as a lower-carbon feedstock for fertiliser production and may also become an important fuel for shipping and other industrial applications. Odisha’s industrial base and port infrastructure provide potential advantages for such projects because the state has large industrial consumers as well as access to export routes. ACME has been developing projects backed by offtake arrangements with major industrial and fertiliser companies, which can provide greater certainty around future demand. Brookfield’s involvement demonstrates the increasing willingness of international investors to finance India’s energy transition when projects have credible customers and infrastructure plans. For Odisha, the opportunity is broader than a single green-ammonia plant. A successful green-molecule ecosystem could create new demand for renewable electricity, engineering, storage, port logistics and industrial services. It could also give Odisha a potential role in India’s future exports of low-carbon industrial products. The development therefore connects global institutional capital with Odisha’s attempt to diversify from traditional fossil-fuel and mineral-based industries into green manufacturing.
