SI CSEM AND AARE SOLAR ADD SEMICONDUCTOR AND BATTERY MANUFACTURING TO ODISHA’S NEW INDUSTRIAL MAP

Odisha’s latest investment approvals include a ₹2,078 crore silicon-carbide wafer and gallium-nitride manufacturing facility by SiCSem in Khurda and a ₹1,050 crore advanced battery-energy-storage assembly project by Aare Solar in Nuapada. The two proposals highlight how Odisha is attempting to move into technology-intensive manufacturing segments that are expected to play a central role in India’s future electronics and clean-energy industries. Silicon-carbide and gallium-nitride technologies are used in power electronics and other high-performance applications, while battery-storage systems are becoming increasingly important as renewable-energy capacity expands. The combination of semiconductor-related manufacturing and energy-storage infrastructure could create opportunities for suppliers, engineers, technicians and specialised service providers in the state. The projects are also relevant to India’s wider effort to develop domestic supply chains for electronics, electric mobility, renewable energy and advanced industrial equipment. For Odisha, the challenge will be converting individual projects into a connected ecosystem with research capabilities, trained manpower, logistics infrastructure and supporting component manufacturers. The latest approvals suggest that the state is trying to build such an ecosystem alongside its traditional strengths in metals and power. If implemented successfully, the investments could contribute to higher-value manufacturing and reduce dependence on imported components in selected technology sectors. They also demonstrate the increasingly close relationship between semiconductor technology, electrification and the energy-storage economy.
